Toilet Overflowing? Stop the Water First

Reach the shutoff valve on the wall behind the toilet and turn it clockwise until the water stops. Why does my toilet keep running?

Why is there water around the base of my toilet?

Most often a failed wax ring seal, sometimes a loose supply connection or tank bolts. Don’t keep mopping it up; water under a toilet finds subfloor fast.

My toilet clogs all the time. Is the toilet or the drain to blame?

Either can be the cause. Older low-quality toilets clog on their own, but repeated clogs in a good toilet usually point to the branch drain or main sewer line.
